Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park, also known as Place of Refuge by many, has excellent snorkeling. Due to difficult ocean entry and strong ocean swell, place of Refuge is recommended for experienced snorkelers. Because swells are usually highest around noon, try to come early. Make sure to wear shoes...the lava gets very hot in the summer sun. Place of Refuge also has an information desk with maps and brochures.

Accessibility
Head south on highway 11. In between markers 103 and 104, take the 160 toward the ocean. Look for a sign on your left for the parking lot.
